Erik Gonzalez won the CA State D3 race 11/26/2016 in Fresno with a time of 15:03.3 (4:50/mi. average). Sophomore Kevin Ramos placed 10th with a time of 15:29.9 (4:58/mile average). The two Rubidoux runners placed first and second at the CIF Southern Section Finals the previous weekend in Riverside.
All divisions combined, Erik was 5th in the entire state. Kevin was 24th (2nd place sophomore in the state).
CIF Southern Section Re-cap:
On Saturday November 19th the boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Southern Section Cross Country Championships. The girls finished 24th in Division 3 which has 99 teams. The boys finished 10th behind Erik Gonzalez and Kevin Ramos who finished 1st and 2nd with the 2nd and 3rd fastest times of all the Southern Section runners of the day. Erik became Rubidoux’s first ever Individual Southern Section Champion and both of the boys advanced to the California State Cross Country Championships.
On Saturday November 25th Boys Cross Country runners Erik Gonzalez and Kevin Ramos represented Rubidoux in the State Championships. Sophomore Kevin Ramos finished 10th in the race and was the #2 sophomore of the entire State and 26th of all runners in the state! Senior Erik Gonzalez won the Division 3 State Championship, becoming Rubidoux’s first ever Individual State Champion!! Erik had the 5th fastest time of the entire State Meet and has qualified for Nike Cross Nationals. For this honor, Erik will be flown to Portland Oregon this weekend, all expenses paid, to compete in the National Championship race with the best teams and individuals from the entire country. He will get to meet Nike athletes and visit the Nike factory store and participate in an awards banquet, along with all the cool gear that he will get! Rubidoux has never had an athlete qualify for the national championship meet before.
